WHY CHOOSE SEREN?
Seren have over 15 years’ experience in the care sector. We are a family-owned organisation with a genuine desire to help people live as independently as possible. Our live-in care is a bespoke service, completely tailored to your needs.
HOW DOES THE LIVE-IN CARE SERVICE WORK?
We start by visiting you at your home to listen carefully to you to fully understand what your support needs are. Once we get to know you, we will complete a comprehensive assessment of your situation to help us tailor our support around you. Based on your needs and preferences, we will partner you with a fully-trained carer to help you live the life the way you choose in the comfort of your own home. All of our carers and support workers are fully-trained in their role. They also undergo a comprehensive screening process before they begin working with our service users, ensuring the support they provide is of the highest quality. You will also receive ongoing support and advice from our in-house office team based at our head office in Llandarcy, near Swansea. You can have full confidence in the knowledge that we are fully regulated and regularly inspected by the CSSIW (Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales).
HOW DO I EMPLOY A LIVE-IN CARER?
With our live-in care service, we match and introduce you to your carer. By working together, we will write your care and support plan to best meet your needs to allow you to live at home independently. Live-in carers are employed by Seren, so you do not need to worry about any aspect of their employment – we will take care of this for you.
CAN I CHOOSE WHETHER I HAVE A MALE OR FEMALE LIVE-IN CARER?
Yes, of course. We will provide a live-in carer to match your personality and needs as best as possible. You will have the overall choice over who will become your live-in carer – we believe that the match has to be right to enable you both to live and work together in harmony, keeping your needs at the heart of everything we do.
CAN I HAVE SHORT-TERM TEMPORARY LIVE-IN CARE?
Yes, we can provide you with just as much care as you need; for example: if you have just left hospital and need round-the-clock support while you recover, we can provide short term care and support to enable you to recuperate in the comfort of your own home.
WHAT IS LIVE-IN HOME HELP?
Our live-in carers are there to provide you with all the support you need, whether that is helping you with jobs around the home or personal care, such as help with bathing and dressing, as well as supporting you with your morning or night time routine. Our dedicated live-in carers will also help you keep in touch with your local community. They can help you with shopping, attending social events, visiting family and friends and even attending medical and other routine appointments.
WILL MY LIVE-IN CARER DRIVE ME PLACES?
Yes, if a live-in carer has a driving licence, they are able to drive you to wherever you need to go. If you would like your live-in carer to use your own vehicle, you will need to arrange for them to be insured under your own insurance at your own cost.
WILL MY LIVE-IN CARER COOK FOR ME?
Yes, as well as grocery shopping, our carers will cook you healthy, nutritious meals as well as your old favourites.
DO YOU PROVIDE LIVE-IN NURSING CARE?
Our fully-trained live-in carers will help with all aspects of personal care, (including washing, dressing, cooking etc.), as well as supervising medication, support with day-to-day chores and companionship. We are unfortunately unable to provide nursing care – this includes tending to wounds, injections and suppositories.
DO YOU PROVIDE LIVE-IN CARER FOR PEOPLE OF ALL AGES?
Yes, as well as providing live-in care support services to older persons, we also provide personal assistants for younger people and people with a learning or physical disability.
HOW MUCH DOES HAVING A LIVE-IN CARER COST?
All costs are tailored to meet your individual support needs. We will discuss costs with you as part of our comprehensive assessment and can provide typical costs for standard care packages over the phone. We are also happy to advise you on any funding options that may be available to you. This funding may be available from your local authority or via the NHS.
IF I NEED A LIVE-IN CARER, IS THERE ANYTHING I NEED TO PROVIDE FOR THEM?
As your carer will be living in your home with you, you will need to make sure you have a suitable room for them to live. This means it needs to be furnished, adequately heated, secure and with an acceptable level of privacy. During breaks and downtime, your carer may spend time in their room. Having a comfortable bed, bedroom furniture (such as a wardrobe, bedside table, etc.), an armchair, a desk and television would be welcome wherever possible. Live-in carers will also require a safe place to keep their personal belongings or valuable. If their room is not lockable, they will need another safe place for this.
WHAT ARE THE WORKING HOURS FOR A LIVE-IN CARER?
While a live-in carer will live in your home, they will not be expected to provide care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. On average, our live-in carers work 8-10 hours a day, made up of contact/work time, with non-contact/downtime. This will work around your daily routines and preferences. A live-in carer will require a minimum two-hour break in every working day to meet employment regulations. They must be free to leave your home during this time. Most carers will work six and a half or seven days a week, depending on your needs.

Why choose live-in care?

Live-in carers can help you stay independent and enjoy life in your own home. They can help with:

  • Daily tasks – keeping on-top of day-to-day household chores, including cooking, errands and housekeeping
  • Companionship – build a close relationship and really get to know you
  • Emotional support – on-hand to discuss any issues in a considerate, confidential manner
  • Overnight care – on-call to ensure full support when you need it

By staying in your own home with support available to meet your needs, you’ll retain the independence and freedom to live your life how you choose. You can still enjoy all the things you usually do (such as family visits, hobbies, interests, days out), safe in the knowledge that help is on-hand when you need it most.

A live-in carer hand-chosen by you

Live-in carers help you live your life in the way you choose with support on-hand to meet your care needs.

During our assessment, we will help you find the carer best-suited to your needs and lifestyle, ensuring that they understand you and really get to know about you. This will help you feel more comfortable and help us tailor the support we give to help you make get the most out of life.

Whether its experience or a particular specialist, the ability to drive, a male or female carer or somebody who shares your interests, we will seek to partner you with someone who will fit into your life as seamlessly as possible.
